A native of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Kristopher L. Strance graduated from the University of New Mexico in 1974 with a Bachelor of University Studies degree in Biology and Chemistry. He received his commission in the U.S. Navy in April 1975. Upon his retirement from the U.S. Navy, he joined the Civil Service working in the Department of Defense (DoD).
He possesses over thirty-five years of experience in Information Technology (IT) and National Security Systems (NSS), including policy, planning, development, programming, and operational employment. Technical and management experience extends from field operations to the White House Military Office, and includes key policy and planning positions working directly for senior government executives.
Mr. Strance is currently serving as the DoD Lead for Internet Protocol (IP) Policy in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Networks and Information Integration/DoD Chief Information Officer. He is responsible for development of DoD policy and requirements for: Unified Capabilities (convergence of voice, video, and data services); IT and NSS interoperability; and IPv6 implementation.
